The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge is an extradosed bridge over the River Barrow in Ireland. It was built as part of the N25 New Ross Bypass, and was officially opened on 29 January 2020 by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and opened to traffic on 30 January 2020, becoming Ireland’s longest bridge. The 230 metres (750 ft) main spans of the bridge are the longest concrete-only extradosed box-girder bridge spans in the world. OBEX successfully completed the design, supply and installation of the 2km of H2 Steel parapet on this iconic structure. The remaining structures on the scheme were completed with the OBEX Line H2 aluminium system together with TII approved transitions.

OBEX Systems Ltd is delighted to announce its partnership with Volkmann & Rossbach (V&R) to manufacture and distribute OBEX MT modular terminals and the OBEX Crash Cushion family in Europe.
Volkmann & Rossbach, headquartered in Germany, is a world leading developer and manufacturer of vehicle restraint systems (VRS) and has successfully supplied road safety products for over fifty years. Its Easyrail guardrail system which provides a performance range from low to high containment levels is used in many international markets and the OBEX MT end terminal product shall be used to anchor and terminate these systems.
V&R shall brand the OBEX developed modular terminals as Easyrail MT and are supplying the product in T50, P2 and P4/T110 performance levels. Please visit www.volkmann-rossbach.com
OBEX Systems recently completed the installation of an aluminium parapet system and noise barrier at the new free-flow junction at Newlands Cross. The new flyover, which facilitates nationwide travel from the North to the South of Ireland without any traffic lights comprised the replacement of the existing signalised junction at Newlands Cross with a grade separated junction carrying the N7 over Belgard Road via a new flyover.
OBEX designed and installed:
The N7 is one of the busiest routes in the country and the OBEX team’s participation on this project helped deliver this important piece of infrastructure four months ahead of schedule and within budget.
OBEX Systems has obtained confirmation that their OBEX MT P4 Terminal has been approved for use on Highways England road schemes. This confirmation was authorised by TRL whom also confirmed the product will be included in the Highways England list of EN1317 Compliant Road Restraint Systems when it is next published in June 2015.
The approval is based on the testing of this product in accordance with EN1317 part 4, 2002 which requires the product to meet stringent performance criteria to pass four vehicle impact tests (two frontal impacts and two lateral impacts). OBEX MT P4 Terminal has in addition successfully passed two further impact tests to comply with prEN1317 part 7 which will be formally implemented by European authorities in the not too distant future.
OBEX designed the OBEX MT P4 based on a modular configuration of shock absorbing cells that can be used for both single sided and double-sided applications. Furthermore, its cellular compression behaviour is fail-safe where cells crush, fold and concertina in unison to withstand the energy of vehicle impact without any risk of a residual hazard. The concept was developed to entirely mitigate the potential for malfunction and spearing of errant vehicles which has been an issue for traditional corrugated beam systems.
OBEX MT P4 is rated as P4, B, D1.2, Z2 and provides unrivalled performance characteristics in the market to comply with EN1317 part 4 and prEN1317 part 7.
OBEX Systems recently supplied a high containment aluminium parapet system at a new interchange for Motorway Services at Kilcullen, Co. Kildare. This is the first of its kind where an all-aluminium parapet system that is tested to H2 high containment in accordance with EN1317 has been installed anywhere in the world. This marks a significant move by the road authorities towards specifying high containment requirements for parapets in such applications.
The OBEX Line provides an aesthetic, durable and lightweight solution for bridge parapets and in particular, is an ideal solution for parapet upgrades as the aluminium performance mitigates excessive load transfer to bridge decks designed for normal containment capacity.
OBEX Line is configured as a four rail system with posts at 1.5m centres and is the result of extensive design modelling of the OBEX Line range where full-scale laboratory crash testing of this product involved impact tests from both a small car and a thirteen tonne bus. This parapet is rated as H2BW4 to EN1317 part 2 and is CE marked.
The new junction is located on the M9 Dublin to Waterford motorway and is part of an overall development to provide fuel and dining services as part of a national strategic framework.
OBEX Systems has recently engaged Fencing and Construction Training (FaCT) Ltd to deliver a LANTRA approved course for the assembly and installation of OBEX MT P4/ T110. This course is held at FaCT’s purpose built VRS Training Centre which is located in close proximity to the M42 / M5.
The training centre is equipped with classrooms seating up to 15 candidates and a dedicated demonstration area so the OBEX MT P4 components and their assembly can be clearly illustrated and instructed.

The region’s first hop-on, hop-off Dubai Trolley will tour 7 km across the entire breadth of the 500-acres of Downtown Dubai once completed.
OBEX Curve is a high containment parapet system tested to TL4 level in accordance with NCHRP 350 and was selected by Emaar to ensure safe pedestrian and vehicle traffic along the tramway.
OBEX has launched a training course for the installation of the Line Aluminium Bridge Parapet System. The course is facilitated and delivered by Fencing and Construction Training (FaCT) Ltd and covers the assembly and installation of the entire family of OBEX Line configurations which offer performance levels from N1 to H2 containment.
This course is held at FaCT’s purpose built VRS Training Centre which is located in close proximity to the M42 / M5. FaCT is a Lantra approved assessment centre and provides a range of training courses in VRS and fencing supervision. The centre is equipped with classrooms seating up to 15 candidates and a dedicated demonstration area so the Line parapet installation can be demonstrated in practice.
